Modbury

Luscombe Maye is this areas leading Estate, Land and Lettings agent.

Modbury has existed since at least Saxon times and takes its name from the Saxon for "meeting place"

Modbury itself lies in the heart of the countryside and is surrounded by the rolling hills and ridges of the South Hams in Devon.  Visitors are surprised and delighted by its dignified terraced houses, slate-hung walls, old shop windows and classical doorways - an urban landscape within a rural setting.

The town is well supplied with many independent shops including butchers, bakers, grocers, hardware and delicatessen, as well as art and antique shops and well-reputed inns and restaurants. The town has a health centre, opticians, dentist and veterinary surgery as well as an ancient parish church and a popular primary school.

There are bus connections to Kingsbridge 8 miles to the southeast and to Plymouth 12 miles to the west, where there are full city facilities including Derriford Hospital, a mainline railway station and airport.

Magnificent sandy beaches lie only five miles away at Bigbury on Sea and Wonwell, with the South Devon Coast Path offering glorious walks as well as numerous rural footpaths nearer Modbury. About five miles north of Modbury is the A38 Dual Carriageway Expressway and just to the north of this is the contrasting rugged splendour of Dartmoor.
