Harberton Ford

Luscome Maye have been selling property in Harberton Ford for many, many years.

Harbertonford is a village of about 300 houses, a little south of Totnes in the South Hams.

It lies in the valley of the Harbourne river which is a tributary of the Dart. The church of St. Peter was erected in 1859, and according to the Directory of Devonshire (1866), “the living is a perpetual curacy, annual value £170, with house, in the gift of the vicar, and held by the Rev. Alexander Popham Luscombe, B.A., of St John's College, Cambridge…”

The directory also mentions local businesses at the time… “On the banks of the river is an old woollen factory, now partly occupied as a corn-mill; and in the same valley is the large edge tool manufactory of Messrs. Knapman and Son, called Hill Mills.”

Nowadays, the post office stores have a wide range of produce on sale and there are a number of other small shops, public houses and a primary school.
