Continued Fund Raising Success
Following the successful Coffee Morning held in the spring of this year to raise funds for Devon Air Ambulance, Luscombe Maye have recently raised a further £221.00 for Devon Air Ambulance by organising a raffle for a watercolour kindly donated by a local artist.
The watercolour, entitled ‘Reflections’ was kindly offered up by John H R Chapple who lives in South Brent and has been doing fine art watercolour painting since 2004. Inspired by nature and the countryside around him, there were a large number of raffle tickets sold for the watercolour from the six Luscombe Maye offices and on their stands at Totnes, Yealmpton and Kingsbridge Shows.
The winner, Mrs Sparshatt from Yealmpton is shown in the photo receiving the prize from John Chapple.
Also during 2011 the Kingsbridge Office of Luscombe Maye decided to clear out a quantity of old property files that had been stored on the top floor of their office. On checking the contents of these files it was discovered that many of them dated back to the early 1900s.
As Luscombe Maye began life as R H Luscombe & Sons back in 1873 it was soon realised that these files contained records and plans of historical interest, many of them relating to farming activity during the first and second World Wars. Click here for more on the history of Luscombe Maye.
Many of these files have now been donated to a local History Society in order that they may be used for research into the history of the South Hams; however some of the files were retained in order that the current owners could be tracked down to see if they were interested in finding out about the past life of their farm.
The farm owners who came to the Kingsbridge office of Luscombe Maye to claim their file very kindly donated money to Devon Air Ambulance and this has raised £168.53.
Combined with the money raised at the coffee mornings held at the Luscombe Maye offices earlier in the year this brings the total raised by Luscombe Maye in 2011 for Devon Air Ambulance to £1,230.00.
Luscombe Maye’s Coffee Morning
Luscombe Maye recently held a very successful coffee morning in aid of Devon Air Ambulance.
All six offices of Luscombe Maye from Totnes to Yealmpton participated and a very enjoyable morning was had by all, serving refreshments together with home made cakes and biscuits to past and present vendors and clients. The event was very well supported generally and it is hoped that a similar event will be held in the future. Some members of Devon Air Ambulance were also on hand at some offices promoting and explaining the role of this invaluable service.
The total amount collected was £812.99 with proceeds going towards the purchase of a new air ambulance. A cheque was presented by Andrea Hack of the South Brent office and Alistair Ham of Modbury office to a representative of Devon Air Ambulance at their base at Middlemoor, they were also fortunate enough to have a guided tour of the new aircraft.
Luscombe Maye would like to thank everyone who attended for their support and for making it a very enjoyable event for this incredibly worthwhile charity.
